TwinODIS aims to create an interdisciplinary, international and multicultural hub of excellence that will establish the Foundation for Research & Technology – Hellas (FORTH) as a world-leading research centre in the emerging field of Decision Intelligence Systems. Our tools, methods, and applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Operations Research (OR) will advance research and education in AI-empowered decision-making in data-intensive and uncertain environments.
The TwinODIS project aims to create a collaborative network to enhance interactions among consortium members, strategically complementing FORTH-ICS S&T activities and expanding its research capacity in Large-Scale Decision Intelligence Systems (LS-DIS) by integrating AI and OR expertise. The project fosters research excellence through a well-planned networking program, focusing on big data management, multi-criteria decision-making, and uncertainty-aware optimization models. UPC-LIPADE and EUR-ESE will share expertise in OR and AI-driven multi-agent systems, respectively, benefiting FORTH-ICS growth in EU funding, industry innovation, and administrative skills, ultimately establishing it as an AI-driven Decision Science Hub for Greece and South-Eastern Europe.
TwinODIS aims to fulfill the following objectives:
- Scientific & Technical: Integrate AI, OR and big data management components to enable trustworthy & robust decision-making in complex uncertain environments. Develop joint research activities and exploit research results in two challenging target applications: (i) multi-energy systems management and (ii) smart ports planning.
- Training & Mentoring: Create a comprehensive training programme on administrative and management issues (e.g. competitive proposal preparation, grants management, intellectual property rights (IPR) management) for the senior scientists of FORTH-ICS. Build a career-oriented and mentoring programme, focusing on early-stage researchers (ESRs), in learning-enhanced data-intensive Decision Science and in soft skills development.
- Technology Transfer: Implement a transfer of knowledge to FORTH-ICS in Streaming Big Data Analytics and Distributed/Explainable AI, Stochastic & Multi-Objective Optimization and Optimal Planning, and Hybrid AI-OR Modeling.
- Capacity Building & Sustainability: Raise the scientific profile of FORTH-ICS staff and increase their potential in fostering innovation, securing industrial funding, and engaging in diverse EU projects via the exchange of expertise and the implementation of best practices from the advanced partners. Establish an Industry Engagement Office at FORTH-ICS with a focus on AI-driven Decision Support Systems & Services.
- International Visibility: Increase FORTH-ICS visibility at an international level via joint contribution to journal and conference publications, and membership to key Industrial Associations and Networks of Excellence related to AI and OR.
The TwinODIS project is funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe HORIZON-WIDERA-2023-ACCESS-02-01, Project: 101160009.
