WP1 - Project Management
This work package (WP) ensures the efficient management, monitoring, and reporting of TwinODIS, covering both technical and financial aspects. It focuses on achieving the project’s capacity-building, technical, and training goals while ensuring smooth coordination among partners. The role also involves representing the consortium in discussions with EU officers, managing intellectual property rights (IPR), identifying and mitigating risks, addressing gender considerations, and maintaining high-quality standards across all project activities and deliverables. Project management operates on two levels: daily operations to oversee ongoing tasks and regular reporting to track progress and ensure compliance with EU requirements.
WP2 - Building Research Excellence :: Theoretical Models & Computational Tools
This WP focuses on advancing research at FORTH-ICS in the fields of Data Science, Decision Science, and Operations Research, with the goal of developing the next generation of Decision Intelligence Systems for data-rich environments. The research will emphasize innovative approaches to: (i) Managing and analyzing streaming big data to extract real-time insights; (ii) Developing hybrid AI-OR models capable of handling large-scale, multi-objective optimization problems; (iii) Enhancing stochastic optimization techniques to better account for uncertainty in decision-making; (iv) Designing distributed, explainable, and fair AI models that ensure transparency and ethical decision processes. By integrating these advanced methodologies, the project aims to push the boundaries of intelligent decision-making in complex and dynamic environments.
WP3 - Building Research Excellence :: Target Applications
This WP aims to demonstrate the impact of the scientific advancements and research capacity improvements developed in WP2 by applying them to two critical real-world challenges: (i) multi-energy systems management and (ii) smart port planning — both of which are strategic priorities at the regional and national levels. By implementing these innovations in practical scenarios, the goal is to showcase their effectiveness and potential benefits. Additionally, the computational tools developed in WP2 will be reviewed, updated, and refined as needed, based on insights gained from their application in these two target areas.
WP4 - Building Excellence Capacity :: Training & Mentoring for Soft Skills Development
A key objective of the project is to provide high-quality training for researchers, with a particular focus on early-career scientists. The training activities are structured into two phases. During the first phase (Months 1-24), the emphasis will be on developing scientific skills and technical expertise. In the second phase (Months 18-36, in coordination with WP5), the focus will shift toward fostering collaboration between academic and non-academic stakeholders, enhancing the ability of FORTH-ICS personnel to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.
WP5 - Building Excellence Capacity :: Networking for Technology Transfer
Building on the activities of WP4, this WP focuses on three key objectives: (i) Empowering Researchers – Providing researchers with the necessary skills and knowledge to translate scientific discoveries into real-world applications that benefit society; (ii) Building Strong Networks – Establishing connections between project partners and external stakeholders, including industry leaders, regional and national institutions, and public bodies, to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange; (iii) Ensuring Long-Term Impact – Developing a sustainable strategy for the future, ensuring continued progress and follow-up on technology transfer achieved through TwinODIS research. This WP plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between research and practical implementation, strengthening collaboration, and securing the long-term success of TwinODIS innovations.
WP6 - Dissemination & Communication
This WP focuses on developing and implementing clear communication strategies tailored to a broad range of audiences, such as academics, researchers, industry stakeholders, general users, and policy or decision-makers.
WP7 - Exploitation & Sustainability
This work package focuses on managing the project’s intellectual property (IP) and planning for its long-term use beyond the project’s duration. It involves developing a clear exploitation roadmap, conducting market analysis, and creating commercialization strategies for the project’s technologies. The plan will identify key exploitable outcomes, relevant stakeholders, and the most effective business models and pathways for bringing project results to market or wider adoption.
The TwinODIS project is funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe HORIZON-WIDERA-2023-ACCESS-02-01, Project: 101160009.
Starting date: 1st October 2024 :: Duration: 3 years
