Postdoctoral Researcher
Institute of Computer Science, Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas
Athanasia Gkogkou is a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Astrophysics (IA) and Institute of Computer Science (ICS) at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH). She earned her Ph.D. from the Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille (LAM) in 2023, her M.Sc. in Astrophysics in 2020, and her B.Sc. in Physics in 2018 from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Her primary research interests revolve around understanding the evolution of galaxies over cosmic time. To explore this, she employs intensity mapping (IM), an observational technique that surveys the large-scale structure of the Universe by capturing the integrated emission from all sources along the observer's line of sight. She particularly uses the SIDES simulation (developed together with her French collaborators) to make forecasts for future IM experiments, while also modeling the expected signal to interpret data from both ongoing and upcoming experiments. Her scientific interests extend to cosmology, where she exploits available cosmic microwave background (CMB) data to understand the initial conditions shaping the evolution of the Universe.
