When Research Meets the Public: FORTH at Researchers’ Night
On Friday, September 26, 2025, the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) opened its doors to the public for Researchers’ Night, simultaneously in Heraklion (Vasilika Vouton) and at the IMS premises in Rethymno. FORTH The event, running from 17:00 to 23:00, invited visitors of all ages to immerse themselves in science, innovation, and dialogue with researchers.
At the heart of our participation was the OrbitalMosaic exhibit — a vivid demonstration of how modern technology and data science bring the water world into sharper view. Our researchers were on hand to present the observatory, explain how it integrates satellite imaging, sensor networks, and meteorological inputs, and illustrate how raw data is transformed into visualizations and insights. We answered questions, engaged curious minds, and encouraged the public to explore the power of remote sensing and environmental monitoring.

Thousands of attendees wandered through the exhibits, interacted with hands-on demonstrations, and saw first-hand how research and technology shape our world. From interactive installations to scientific posters and guided tours, the evening was rich in creativity, curiosity, and conversation.
